Poetry Monday: The Immeasurable Sea and the Boundless Earth

The Immeasurable Sea
and the Boundless Earth

There are limits to exploration
a knife’s edge boundary
you can’t cross
no matter how loud
your song
pressing
boundless earth.
It isn’t really the bountiful, beautiful
Earth you want
not the ocean rich
with mysterious kelp
you’d like to cross.

There’s nothing you’ll find
in your ragged quest
for life
digging dirty fingernails
against pica hunger.

Nothing there
in the uncharted horizon
your life spent mapping
dizzy with knowledge
and misunderstanding

you don’t already know.

*****

Fron Sublime Planet (and by way of a prelude for Earth Day)
