The good folks at Hachette Book Group have offered us a bumper pack of books for those who live in places where July is summer. Winners will receive one set of the following HBG summer 2010 books:
Adam By Ted Dekker
The Island By Elin Hilderbrand
The Recessionistas By Alexandra Lebenthal
Rich Boy By Sharon Pomerantz
Backseat Saints By Joshilyn Jackson
To enter, just leave a comment with your email address, telling me what your favourite summer read has been this year so far. The contest will be open until the 31st of July, and I will notify the winner on the first of August. I'm afraid that it's only open to those of you with a US or Canada mailing addresses. I'll post your response next month in our 'best of summer reads' feature. It's 1 degree where I am (and I live in a relatively warm climate!), but if I close my eyes, I can image a heat haze (from the wood fireplace if nothing else). Good luck everyone!
I'll trade some of the warm weather here for some cooler weather. It's over 100 degrees in Southern Utah.

Oh my gosh, I have so many books I've read this summer! I go through 2-3 week, so I'm not sure I have a favorite one. Right now I am reading Lee Child's latest Jack Reacher novel, "61 Hours." But I have been rereading ALL of Terry Brooks' Shannara books. I do that once every 3-4 years. I know, but there are just some books that are good enough for that.
ReplyDeleteLet's see, I've read James Patterson, Mary Higgins Clark, Preston & Child, Suzanne Brockman, Jonathan Kellerman, and so forth. All of them are wonderful!
I'm with you Virginia. Here in New York City the temps will be in the mid to upper 90s all week.
ReplyDeleteFor children's books, my favorite so far this summer is What is Electricity and Magnetism? by Richard and Louise Spilsbury.
I love books that teach in an interesting manner.

My fav for the summer so far has been Brains: A Zombie Memoir by Robin Becker.
Summary from Amazon: Since being cornered and bitten in his home by a swarm of zombies, former college professor Jack Barnes has found a new love: brains. Not just any brains, but “bubbly, bewitching, bedazzling brains.” While he may be a zombie (he ate his wife shortly after being turned), a classic, arms-outstretched, shambling zombie he is not. He has something special that the rest of the infected don't: self-awareness. That and his ability to write convince him to go to Chicago to find the scientist who created the virus responsible for zombification and, he hopes, end the war between the living and the dead. En route he meets a few “like-minded” undead compatriots, all with varying degrees of sentience, to help him on his quest: Joan, once a nurse, who is particularly skilled at patching up body parts; Guts, a young man who can still run with the best of them; pregnant Eve, whom Jack falls for after biting off her finger; and Ros, a spokesman of sorts, since he's still able to talk. Becker's humorous first-person narrative will have readers rooting for the zombie crew, and she keeps the action moving at breakneck pace. Smart, funny, weirdly uplifting, Brains is a most welcome addition to zombie lit. --Carlos Orellana.
